Netsweeper Inc. is growing and we are looking for a Senior Technical Writer to lead customer documentation and training to the next level.  The successful candidate must be able to produce high quality materials with minimal supervision or assistance.

In the documentation role, the Senior Technical Writer provides two different classes of materials: 1) high level overview 2-3 page guides or papers and 2) detailed technical manuals.  To produce the first class of materials, the writer must be skilled at identifying key details and summarizing information (using both words and diagrams).  For the second class ofmaterials, the writer will be responsible for collecting information from low-level, internal sources and collecting it into detailed, accurate, and complete product documentation.  The writer will also manage the document repository and must be able to use the system to track multiple ongoing document reviews and multiple revisions of a wide range of documentation in a growing field of new Netsweeper product offerings.

In the trainer role, the Senior Technical Writer will create a third class of materials: online training modules consisting of a series of slides and an accompanying script to be read with the presentation.  Training modules must be engaging, throrough, concise, and clear and the quality of the finished product is of high importance.  An amount of live (over the phone)customer training is also a possibility, though this responsibility is negotiatable.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in writing or communication
  • Technology or science education also highly desirable
  • At least five years experience in a related job role
  • Pursuing a career in technical communication
  • Ability to learn and understand computing and networking concepts in detail
  • Interpersonal skills (communication and information gathering is a significant part of this job)
  • Top notch organizational skills required- maintaining a library of documentation, with multiple revisions of each, is a key responsibility
  • An eye for detail and a desire to achieve a high level of 'polish' is very important
  • Written communication skills must be very strong in all 3 required styles of writing: brief overview, detailed explanation, and point summary accompanied by narrative script (for training presentations)
  • Technical ability, familiarity with computers or networking concepts, beyond basic operation of consumer applications (eg. Microsoft Word)
  • Proficiency in MS Powerpoint highly desirable
  • Proficiency in MS Word required
  • Experience with Camtasia is a plus
  • Experience in technical instruction (teaching) is desirable
  • Familiarity with KnowledgeTree DMS is a plus
