Client Filter for Education

With many educational institutions now offering laptops to students on a loan basis to ensure adequate access to technology, new problems have emerged. These laptops, once out of the network of the educational organization, are no longer subject to the same security, regulation, and controls when in the educational network.

Educational organizations need to have control of school computing resources even when they are at home with students. The Netsweeper Client Filter solution ensures that a laptop outside the school network is still being governed by the same rules as a workstation in a school computing lab. This ensures that the laptop is being used for educational purposes, even when on the Internet in a student's house at home. With the Educational Laptop Protection, CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act) and TPM (Technology Protection Measure) can still be enforced.

Technical Overview

PC: The Netsweeper Client Filter is designed for educational school boards / districts that provide their students and faculty members with PC laptops. Each laptop is installed with a small piece of software that would send each requested URL to either the schools Netsweeper Policy server or to a centrally hosted Policy server that would reflect the students filtering profiles even when the student or faculty member is at home.

 

Functional Overview

The Netsweeper Client Filter for Education is designed to work in tandem with the Netsweeper Enterprise Filter or the Netsweeper Internet Filter for Education.

Instant Message Blocking
Administrators can determine if they want students that take home laptops to have access to common instant messaging applications.

P2P Blocking
Administrators can determine if they want students that take home laptops to have access to common P2P applications.

Internet Filtering
Filtering policies can be enforced on the laptop ensuring that even when the laptop is at home or connected to a network other than the schools, it is governed by the educational organizations filtering policies and terms of use.
